Briefly, tuition is free over the 24 month training period for those aged 16-18 years. Employers who take-on anyone from this age group qualify for a £1000 payment which can be spent on anything the employer wishes
Tuition costs for those aged 19 and over amounts to approx £550
For employers registered with CITB, & eligible for grant can claim up to £8500 over the 2 year period, and if the cost of travel to training costs more than £20 per week, CITB will fund the excess and also, provide 80% of the cost accommodation in certain circumstances employer – this initiative is called “Travel to Train”. CITB also provides support via its New Entrant Scheme where staff will help employers through the maze of necessary paperwork/arrangements
Some Councils provide additional grant as an incentive to employers to recruit local labour.
